Thanks again for visiting my site.  This section describes all my specifics about teaching.

What I teach:

Low-brass - trombone, euphonium, tuba, and sackbut for the really adventurous

Recorders - all sizes

Jazz studies - improvisation, theory, history

General music theory and history

Music appreciation

All levels of individual and group lessons, sectionals, small ensemble coaching, big band instruction, and classes.

I teach at my home and I travel to different areas.  If I am teaching a student at a school I will generally look for other interested students in the area to come to that school on that day.

I want to teach people who want to learn and are excited about the different facets that music has to offer.  I like people who are prepared with music to play and questions to ask.

If you respect my time, I will respect yours.

What I charge:

$50/hr, $25/hr

If you pay for 4 hour length lessons at once I will give you a discount of $5 off each lesson

I can also negotiate a group lesson rate, which would make each persons fee much less.

Send me an email and let’s work out your future music education.

Philosophy

I am very interested in education and really want to give back to the world what was given to me.  I know that sounds so cliché, but it is true.  One of my first teachers saw me many times without wanting to take my money.  He just wanted me to have a good chance to succeed in the music business.  So I want to give as freely as I can of what I know.

I try very hard to give every student exactly what they want while imparting a little extra knowledge for the long run.

Music should also be fun.  I like to laugh and make others laugh too while making and learning music.  Music can be a challenge but it shouldn’t be intimidating.  Laughing and having fun will make the learning easier.

After teaching private instruction for about 15 years now on low-brass I feel comfortable with all levels.  Part of my experience has been starting beginners and working with them through their initial stages of development.  I continue teaching levels from middle school, high school, college students, and adults with great success.  It was during my masters that I really had a lot of fun directing a big band of mostly first year undergraduates and taking some of the younger advanced students and giving them advice and direction.

Since I have been specializing on recorder, I am looking for interested students.  Definitely all ages welcome.  Recorder is a great first instrument to learn about music and there is lots of music for the advanced recorder player who is interested in learning a different part of our musical traditions.
