Hi friends.  Thanks for coming and checking out my site.  I am excited to share with you Bryce’s musical happenings, where I am at and where I am going.

There have been some recent updates to my life.  I have moved back out to Oregon after completing my graduate performance diploma at Peabody.  Liz and I drove twice across the US.  The first time was more just-get-there in a moving van.  The second time was more of a vacation and we drove through the south.  That was quite cool even though the temperature was not.

Now that I am back in Oregon, Liz and I are basing ourselves in Astoria but we are both working out of town.  I will be looking to find more work in Portland and as I have already found a few gigs, I feel that more are on the horizon.  The two main items on my agenda are early music on recorder and jazz on trombone and Portland is good location for both of these idioms.  I still have a gig out east with a couple other folks and I am trying to get more work there.  Meanhwile in Oregon I am going to be taking on students and performing as hard as I can.

After our drives, I was lucky enough to be accepted to a  program at a well respected workshop back east called The Amherst Early Music Workshop.  The program was called the Virtuoso Recorder and was a rather small but talented group of 8.  Unfortunately I was the oldest but felt like I learned the most.  This was both my first and my last time I will attend the Virtuoso program but I am thankful that I was able to experience it.

Although performing has always been the center of my musical life, I have other activities that I try to accomplish.  I am highly skilled in the music notation program Finale and have a small business on the side that helps people in all matters of music presentation.  I have also been in the instrument repair business which helped me bring home some bread in the past and could do so again in the future.  But the other big musical thing I do is teaching.  I have taught privately closing in on 15 years and feel that is something I have to give back to the universe so to speak.

During my Masters I did more teaching but at the college level.  Recently I have considered finishing one more advanced degree after this GPD so that I may be more able to teach at the college level.  While all the time I hope to be continuing into the big leagues in all of my playing whether it be recorder or trombone, early music or jazz.

When I am not doing all of my music I am living between Baltimore and Astoria, Oregon with my lovely wife Liz and our two cats Clyde and Missy and a recently adopted dog named Bear of the spritely young age of ten.  Liz and I have been and will be doing lots of traveling around the world.

Hobbies include homebrewing, computers, gardening and riding bicycles.  And if I didn’t have my wife, cats and other hobbies, I would not be very sane.
